Viggo Mortensen on Charlie Rose

Rory Douglas!!

Rory was born at 5:22pm on Wednesday, April 16, 2003 at Carroll County General Hospital in Westminster, Maryland. He was 8 pounds, 5 oz., and 20 inches long.

Kilted wee laddie

Rory checking out the device to help the hearing-impaired parishioners at the church where Tibby was performing as a lovely flower girl. Rory's in a Crawford kilt fashioned by Mommy.

Click on the photo for a picture of him at the State Fair on September 4. Tibby's trying to show him how soft the bunny in the cage is. See the Family/Jennie Photos page (bottom left corner photo) for a picture of him wiht my Kerry/Edwards sign later in the evening.

Yummy!

If you know me, you'll know that in August we discovered that Rory has lead poisoning. One of the chief sources, it seems, was the paint powerwashed off the outbuildings behind our house, and tracked in by the dog. Here's Rory sampling some of the new (lead-free) topsoil spread on top to cap the lead-imbibed dirt.  The landlords also capped the gravel area where we park with 20 tons of gravel.

Click on the picture for the most adorable picture of Rory at Robert and Richards' birthday party at a miniature golf course in August.

Fourth of July!

Rory on the Fourth of July 2004, when we went to Oregon Ridge Park and watched the fireworks listening to the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

Click for a picture of Rory on guitar!  Actually, it's a baritone ukelele, but it's just his size! He loves to drag it out and strum it, singing nonsense words.

Archaeological Society of Maryland workshop

On March 20th, I took Rory and Tibby to the Archaeological Society of Maryland's Spring Symposium, held at my office. Here's Rory sitting among a display of baskets and gourds. But don't let that grin fool you. He's actually far more interested in the cord tied to the corner of tarp in front of him.

Click the picture for a shot of Tibby and Rory upstairs at my office in the library, where I do much of my work. At 11 months, he's ready to help out!

Oohs a naughty li'tle buggins, then?

On February 29th I installed cabinet locks on the under-the-sink cabinets, and told my online friends that I didn't figure he could get into much trouble in the other cabinets. Two days later, look what the wee buggins is up to! His latest game is to pull every single plastic container out of the plastic container cabinet and throw it on the floor. Time once again to chant the Mommy Mantra: It's a quiet activity. It's a quiet activity. It's a quiet activity.

Click on the picture for extreme cheekiness.

Big smile!

About 7 months old, standing on the arm of Mommy's chair. Rory loves to smile and laugh. All his life, when people meet him, they say, "It's good to be you, isn't it, Rory?"

There's my smiley boy!

He's such a smiley baby. He grins so big when he looks into your face. This picture was at about 2 months, when he was starting to become really expressive. Click for a bigger version of this picture.
